Many members asked to read JLR's response for themselves. Following advice, we have decided to publish its 2 October letter with personal details redacted.
Tell us what you think the group should do next
Read JLR's letter (PDF, 3 pages). We have redacted personal names, an individual email address and a handwritten signature. The letter is otherwise unchanged. Our assessment of JLR's response is also available.
Thank you to everyone who has shared their experience. If you contact JLR's Executive Office, please record the dates, responses and outcome in your private member vehicle history. It gives the group structured evidence of whether the individual-review route works. You can add it from your member dashboard.
What should we do next?
These paths are not mutually exclusive. We want members to help set their priority:
- Wait for a clearer response from JLR. Keep the dialogue open and watch whether its individual approach produces satisfactory, lasting outcomes.
- Grow the group and the evidence. More owners and stronger, accurate records will make the scale and range of concerns harder to overlook.
- Consider a measured approach to the press. Existing owners must not be left behind as Jaguar turns to new customers, and prospective owners deserve clear information. We want to understand, for example, how the Type 01's high-voltage battery differs in ways that matter. We need a balance that gets attention without undermining constructive engagement with JLR.
- Prepare legal escalation. With our advisers, we would need to assess the route, likely costs and possible funding before asking eligible owners for explicit consent to be represented. A survey choice alone would not give that consent.
We will contact members who offered legal, management, PR or media-relations skills soon. We will also ask some owners whether they would want to share their experience with the media. No personal story will be shared without that owner's agreement.
We are preparing member features for contact details and specific consent, and a new “what next?” survey to help establish which steps have a group mandate. We will explain what each question means before asking members to respond. For legal representation, we will also need to confirm each person's eligibility and identity and obtain their separate, explicit consent. The account choice being prepared covers preparatory legal engagement only; issuing proceedings or accepting costs would require further authority.
